About the 8 Hour Annual Refresher Training Course

Cost: $375 per individual
Description: This course is designed to meet the requirements of OSHA for refresher training of emergency response personnel who will respond to leaks or spills of chemicals for the purpose of stopping the leak or spill. It is specifically aimed at ammonia users, but will relate to many other chemicals in your workplace. OSHA requires that all personnel who are expected to respond to spills or leaks must have this annual training.
Scope:

This course is design to meet expectations of 30% classroom time and 70% hands on field training site specific training

30% Classroom Time

Discuss new or updated regulations that impact the ammonia industry

  • Review chemical near misses and odor investigations
  • Discuss real accidents that have happened in the past year
  • Cover site-specific roles and responsibilities per the ERP and any plan updates
  • Discuss and review site-specific chemicals (SDS sheets)
  • Discuss PPE

70% Field Training

  • Develop tabletop strategies for expected chemical events and present to the team
  • Donning/doffing exercise and equipment setup
  • Drill with the team on the selected tabletop exercise
  • How to decontaminate responders and clean up ammonia spills
  • Protective clothing
  • Self-contained breathing apparatuses (SCBAs) and respirators
  • Clients can select from a variety of breakout sessions
Prerequisite: 24 Hour Emergency Response Team Training
Who should attend: Members of management, engineering, maintenance, refrigeration, safety, production, human resources and security. A good cross section can contribute greatly to the overall effectiveness of any emergency response team.

1 Day 8 Hour Annual Refresher/NH3 ERT Course Schedule

The following course outline is an estimated amount of time allotted for each section of the program.

Instructors will use their expertise and knowledge of the subject matter to adjust the class timeframe as needed.

Clients will have input in the type of hands on training to be given.

This outline allows for the classroom discussion and hands-on ratio to be 30% classroom 70% hands-on.

Hands-on will include table top exercises and handling of equipment (breakout sessions)

Starting time 8:00 am and Ending time 4:00 pm.

8:00 am – 8:30 am: Class introductions and course outline.

8:30 am – 9:30 am: Cover any previous responses
• Review updates or new codes and regulations
• Accidents and fines
• Odor investigations

9:30 am – 9:45 am: Class break

9:45 am – 10:15 am: Review chemical hazards
• Discuss chemical properties
• Identify hazards of chemicals and how they relate to site
• Respirators
• Protective suits

10:15 am – 12:00 pm: Field Training
Option 1
• Breakout sessions (exercise will be chosen by client)
Option 2
• Run Morning Drill, review equipment, dress out

12:00 pm-1:00 pm: Lunch Break

1:00 pm – 3:00 pm: Walk through afternoon drill or selected table top plan
• Cover drill requirements
• Conduct full dress out response
• Cover critique

3:00 pm – 4:00 pm: Class Test, Test review

4:00 pm: End of Class
